Proverbs Chapter 5
The fifth chapter of Proverbs deals with a single subject—the folly of sexual immorality. Godly wisdom dictates that a man should only be intimate with his wife. There are many benefits to listening to what God says and taking heed. Not only is fornication or adultery morally wrong, it is a major cause of the troubles found in most homes in America. Today, many homes are left without supervision leaving the children to do as they please. Homes are filled with children who are attended by grandparents due to teenage pregnancy. These are the fortunate ones. Some of these grandparents, although they love their grandchildren, often resent being parents again. Many others wind up in a system that doesn’t work. The plans and goals that a young person makes are put on hold and often never come to pass causing resentment building between the biological parents or toward the child. Many wind up on and depend on government aid that seems to never end. The next generation often assumes this way of life as the norm. The future decisions of a young person that wasn’t thinking or made the decision to become sexually active bring about life changes that they are not prepared for. Our children need to be trained up to understand what the will of the Lord is.

Introduction: The fifth chapter of Proverbs deals with a single subject—the folly of sexual immorality.
They need our love and our prayers. Even when we train our children up properly, they are still subject to making poor choices. If that should be the case, hopefully they will be able to look back to what they were taught and trust in the fact that the Lord knows what is best for them. I address this because now is the time to train up our children.
I. Warning Against Adultery
Pro 5:1 My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
Pro 5:2 That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
The subject matter at hand is duly noted as wisdom and understanding. Sexual morality is the subject. Such virtue is profoundly wise. Wise persons will be sexually discreet—exclusively with their own spouse. No consensual act of fornication or adultery was ever entered into without verbal agreement. One party had to suggest the act and the other had to say ‘yes.’
Solomon urges his son to have the wisdom to keep or guard his lips with wise knowledge to avoid even talking about the prospect of such an act, much less agreeing thereto.
